Theory Aims:

  1. Understand the evolution of mental health nursing and its significance within the healthcare system.
  2. Identify and classify various mental disorders to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
  3. Grasp the foundational principles and concepts integral to mental health nursing practice.
  4. Apply the standards set by the Indian Nursing Council for psychiatric mental health nursing in clinical settings.
  5. Demonstrate proficiency in conducting comprehensive mental health assessments.
  6. Establish and maintain therapeutic communication and nurse-patient relationships effectively.
  7. Acquire knowledge of diverse treatment modalities and therapies utilized in managing mental health disorders.

Clinical Aims:

  1. Proficiently assess patients presenting with mental health problems or disorders in clinical settings.
  2. Observe and assist in administering various treatment modalities and therapies under supervision.
  3. Provide counselling and education to patients and their families regarding mental health issues and available treatment options.
  4. Conduct individual and group psychoeducation sessions to enhance understanding and coping skills among patients.
  5. Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with mental health problems or disorders, addressing their physical, emotional, and social needs.
  6. Encourage and support patients in the community to seek early treatment and adhere to follow-up appointments for continuity of care.

Observe and actively participate in the assessment and care of patients with substance abuse disorders in specialized settings, focusing on rehabilitation and relapse prevention strategies.
