STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE FOR COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING LAB

  • STOCK (INVENTORY, UPDATES REPAIR AND CONDEMNATION)
    • Monthly inventory of lab items and equipments
    • Maintain lab utility register
    • Update your lab (purchase )
    • Maintain CSSD register
    • Maintain laundry book
    • Send for repair if in case of damage
      • If not repairable send for condemnation
      • All equipment should be in good working condition at all times.
      • New equipment should be calibrated and validated before routine use
      • Periodic performance check/calibration check for all equipment should be done using reference standard/reference material.
      • The reagents, chemicals and consumables should be stored under appropriate environmental conditions.

LAB UTILIZATION PROTOCOL FOR STUDENTS/STAFFS :

    • Maintain the cleanliness
    • wear professional casual clothing that allows ease of movement such as required in a clinical practice environment
    • long hair must be tied back
    • false finger nails (including acrylic and gel), bracelets, dangling earrings, and rings (except for simple unadorned bands) are not acceptable in the laboratory setting.
    • be considerate: there is often more than one group working within the laboratories and noise should therefore be kept to a minimum.
    • No eating or drinking is permitted in the laboratories, with the exception of drinking from bottles containing water.
    • Replace the articles after the procedure
    • Proper disposable of wastes.
    • equipment and models must not be removed from the laboratories
    • Ensure the electric appliances are switched off and locked
    • be responsible for any damage or loss of equipment by having the equipment properly repaired, replaced, or by fully reimbursing within the week
    • Students will use the lab only for its intended purpose. Failure to do so will require the students to vacate the lab.
    • Students may come to the lab for extra practice time of psychomotor skills. Appointments may be necessary depending on needs
    • Follow the pest control measures

General Safety Measures

  • Documentation of Laboratory Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • All laboratory personnel should be aware about the laboratory safety policies and procedures and follow these at all times.
    • List of hazardous materials used in the laboratory should be prepared. All hazardous materials should be accounted for on a continuous basis.
  • Laboratory personnel should follow safe hygienic practices which include hand washing, wearing protective clothing, gloves, eye protection etc.
  • Biohazard symbol should be used on all container/equipment containing bio-hazardous material.
  • Destruction/disposal of hazardous material should be authorized, supervised and handled according to standard procedures.
  • Periodic checking of all safety equipment and accessories should be ensured.

ISSUING OF ARTICLES/EQUIPMENTS

    • Each laboratory should prepare an exhaustive list of equipment and consumables required and available for general functioning of the laboratory
    • Laboratory equipment should be of adequate capacity to meet work load requirement
    • Permission should be obtained from lab in-charge and to be signed in issue register with proper date and name of things issued from lab.
    • Return equipment on the established return date in the same condition as received.
    • Report any damage to or problems with the equipment upon its return.
