  • Academics

The Undergraduates and Postgraduates program is designed to confirm to the DCI norms.

Undergraduates:
A Dynamic Evaluation System (DES) is used for BDS students where they are evaluated for their conduct, punctuality, case discussion, radiographic interpretation, assignment and journal submission. The interns are taught the systematic method of case recording, diagnostic process, required investigations and evolving a treatment plan in order to acquire confidence in diagnosing the various dental/oral diseases and manage them effectively. In addition to the above, the students are trained in various intra oral radiographic techniques and the interpretation of the same for an appropriate radiodiagnosis. At the end of each clinical posting, they are evaluated through objective structured clinical/practical examination (OSCE/OSPE). Subsequent to the successful completion of the final year, the interns are given study projects on specific topics and these projects are used for self learning by the subsequent batches for updating their knowledge.

They gain expertise to perform both intra oral and extra oral radiography and its interpretation and also carry out various procedures like exfoliative cytology, intralesional injections, usage of TENS in pain relief. They are required to maintain a meticulous record of all the cases with clinical importance and submit the research project/ thesis before they appear for final year examination. Their ability to teach is honed by presentations of seminars, journal clubs, case review, radiographic tracings, taking didactic lectures for undergraduates. They are also encouraged to take up short studies apart from their main dissertation. They are required to publish papers as part of the PG activity, which moulds them into researchers.

WORLD RADIOLOGY DAY AT ORAL MEDICINE AND RADIOLOGY – 8th  November 2019

The department of Oral Medicine and Radiology commemorated the World Radiology Day on 8th November 2019 at People’s College of Dental Sciences and Research Centre, Bhopal. The patients, students and paramedics were sensitized on the judicious use of X- rays for diagnostic and therapeutic purpose.

Sir Wilhelm C. Roentgen discovered X-rays on 8th November 1895. The very first image captured was that of his wife’s wrist. From there on radiology has evolved to more modern modalities like OPG, CT & CBCT.  X-rays are like a double edged-sword.Though X-rays are useful we must be also aware of its harmful effects especially with regard to children and pregnant women. We must prescribe radiographs judiciously. Our department is AERB certified and adequate measures are being taken to ensure radiation protection to the patient and health care personnel.
