The Department offers 2 years postgraduate programs in M.Sc. Biotechnology and M.Sc. Microbiology. M.Sc. Biotechnology programme help to solve real world problems with advanced practical knowledge underpinning modern biotechnology and molecular genetics technologies. The aim of this programme is to train you in a broad range of topics including Genomics and Proteomics, Fermentation Technology and Bioprocess Engineering, Animal Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology, Environmental and Agriculture Microbiology, Medical Microbiology and Food and Dairy Microbiology. Uniqueness of these programmes at DBM is its extensive practical knowledge which is inculcated to the students which enables them to start their career in the field of research or industry.

About the Programme
M.Sc. in Biotechnology is two years postgraduate programme focuses on imparting the advanced knowledge of biology along with the application. Equipped with the excellent laboratories and research facilities, CSRD, People’s University has popularity in central India as one of the best biotechnology center. The programme covers a broad spectrum of subject like advanced cellbiology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetic engineering, fermentation technology. Besides providing students with the necessary knowledge, the programme fosters problem-solving and critical thinking skills that prepare students to take on various challenges that exist. The programme equips the students to undertake further studies involving research and teaching or excel in private or public industrial jobs or become biotech entrepreneurs. The curriculum includes communication skill, journal club, research methodology, project proposal presentation apart from the various knowledge and techniques nurtured to the students through the theoretical and practical classes. They are imparted in a research project in the fourth semester which will be presented by the students at the end of the semester. This makes the candidate to be successful professional to face and accept the worldly challenges that come in his/her way.

India is among the top 12 biotechnology destinations in the world and the third-largest in Asia-Pacific. The industry was valued at US$ 63 billion in 2019 and is expected to reach US$ 150 billion by 2025 with a CAGR of 16.4%. By 2025, the contribution of the Indian biotechnology industry in the global biotechnology market is expected to grow to 19% from 3% in 2017 (Source: IBEF). The M.Sc., Biotechnology graduates can avail job opportunities in a wide spectrum of sectors like Biopharmaceuticals, Agriculture, Quality control, Clinical Research, Regulatory Affairs, and other R&D jobs. Also, they can plan entrepreneurial ventures: develop biotech products, start Contract Research Organizations.

About the Programme
M.Sc. Microbiology is a more focused programme which is deeply inclined to the applied aspects of microbiology along with the basics. The curriculums of the programme provide a holistic development of the students to face the industry, hospitals and the real life situations through life skills and communication courses. The programme covers a broad spectrum of subject like advanced microbiology physiology, biochemistry, genetic engineering, medical microbiology, food and fermentation technology.
